Eagle Safety and Environment Limited are BOHS qualified (P402) asbestos surveyors of buildings and have had over 10 years experience in surveying, we are able to offer management or refurbishment/demolitions surveys.
MANAGEMENT SURVEYS
Management surveys often involve minor intrusive work and some disturbance. The extent of intrusion will vary between premises and depend on what is reasonably practicable for individual properties (i.e. it will depend on factors such as the type of building, the nature of construction, accessibility etc.). Our management surveys will include an assessment of the condition of the various asbestos materials within the building and their ability to release fibres into the air if they are disturbed in some way. This ‘material assessment’ will give a good initial guide to the priority for managing asbestos in the workplace as it will identify the materials, their condition and location (including photographs & maps).
REFURBISHMENT AND DEMOLITION SURVEYS
We can undertake these surveys to locate all the asbestos in the building (or the relevant part) as far as reasonably practicable. It is a disruptive and fully intrusive survey which may need to penetrate all parts of the building structure. Aggressive inspection techniques will be needed to lift carpets and tiles, break through walls, ceilings, cladding and partitions, or open up floors. In these situations, controls would be put in place to prevent the spread of debris, which may include asbestos. The surveys would only be conducted in unoccupied areas to minimise risks to the public or employees on the premises. Ideally, the building should not be in service and furnishings removed.
Survey
- To take samples of any materials suspected of containing asbestos and to analyse these at our UKAS (NAMAS) accredited laboratory, in accordance with MDHS 100 ‘Asbestos in Bulk Materials’.
- To prepare a detailed written report showing all asbestos installations and the types detected
.Eagle Safety and Environment will also provide a detailed specification to comply with current asbestos regulations and associated codes of practice if required.
Legislation
Work with all asbestos-containing materials is controlled under the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 1987 (amended 1992, and 1998) and The Control of Asbestos At Work Regulations 2006. The objective of these regulations, which are made under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, is to minimise workers’ exposure to asbestos fibre within the workplace.
